Most of us like
to see into a shop and browse in the window before we go in. Our church
doesn't have a shop window, but we do have a website. After
a year on the web we have reviewed the site and made it even better
than it was. I hope it will encourage you to come to church
- here if you live nearby or to visit somewhere closer wherever you
happen to be. The most important thing we can do with our time is
to use it in worship, so when you go offline spend some time in prayer.

Our
lovely church building is the centre of the active life of our Christian
community. Here the children are christened; couples come to be married;
here we mourn the dead as we commend their souls to the hands of God.
The church is open for worship and private prayer for at least a short
time almost every day, and on Sundays and Holy Days we gather together
to give thanks and worship and praise. There is now a section
of pictures of the church inside and out, and more importantly of
people joining in activities. Activities which we try always to use
to build up the Kingdom of God.
You might be near enough to
be able to come and visit, perhaps to join, S. Mary's Church; or -
the web being what it is - you may be on another continent. Wherever
you are Jesus - and His universal catholic Church - is very near.
Every day the bells are rung in prayer over the streets of the parish.
It is part of the work of any parish church to keep up a rota of prayer
for all those who live in its parish; and whether you are reading
this just round the corner from S. Mary's or thousands of miles away,
someone is praying for you. "More things are wrought by prayer
than this world dreams of." Do use the prayer request
section to ask us to pray for you, and please pray for us.
We have many activities, one
off things and more regular groups. There are all sorts of things
for different people and different age groups. Browse the site to
find out what is going on: the Newssheet and the Parish Life
pages will give you information especially about what is happening
for you.
Whether you come almost every
day or only a few times in a lifetime, the door is open for you. Each
morning we unlock the church and throw the doors as wide open as they
will go. The doors are open without obligation to all of whatever
background and culture. As Jesus came to all, everyone is welcome,
for quiet or for companionship, for regular worship, for a special
occasion and at the great moments of life and death.
Please explore our website.
There is a virtual tour, but we hope you will be able to explore the
real church, visiting us at the "Big red building on the corner
of Lansdowne Road". In the meanwhile, don't forget to send us
a message in the online visitors guest book.
With every blessing, in the service of Jesus
Christ,
Fr Luke Miller |
